Everything used to burn - like a kettle left on the stove. Steam swirled, my ears rang, and words flew faster than meaning. And now, silence. The one that clicks in the outlet and pulls on the thread of memories. It seems my heart is still trying to write a sequel, even tho the ink has dried. I wish I could turn back time, although the river into which they threw everything "forever" has long carried them downstream. And yet, there's that "what if." Thin, stupid, but alive. Maybe love doesn't die. He just sometimes goes to sleep with the light on - in case someone suddenly decides to come back.
