Description

The city breathes with drafts and neon fatigue. The moon hangs over the streets, as if it has dark circles under its eyes from insomnia – just like everyone else who stayed out a little longer than they should have this nite. Between the shop windows are strangers' faces, coldness, and the plastic smiles of mannequins that seem more alive than the passersby. The music wanders with the homeless person: a little drunk, a little sad, but still stubborn - singing as long as there's air. And in this crooked dance with the reflection on the wet asphalt, something very human suddenly slips thru: laughter that sounds like a plea for warmth. The nite clings to my eyes like thick smoke, but somewhere beneath this darkness, a thot stirs quietly – the bottom has been reached, which means the only way forward is up.

Lyrics and translation

Original

Notte fonda, notte scura, nelle occhiaie della luna.

Occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie.

Occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, -occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie.

Occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, -occhiaie.

Occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie, occhiaie.

English translation

Late night, dark night, in the dark circles of the moon.

Dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles.

I sit there, I walk crookedly like a homeless man along Via del Corso, among the shop windows, the people passing by, those who never look at him.

This city looks like an igloo, I'll go back there, it doesn't fit anymore.

He was seen dancing with a Dolce & Gabbana mannequin down the street.

Faces marked by the cold, by past sadness, imprisoned in a world covered in grates.

A shadow of that empty smile now remains and it slowly dies, drips sinking.

How sad is the laughter of a homeless man who sleeps on a piece of cardboard, sings a refrain, gets high on a whistle.

He drinks from a straw, a song goes out of tune that seems to me to be speaking about me, - speaking badly about me.

-Late night, dark night, in the dark circles of the moon.

Dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, - dark circles, dark circles, dark circles.

-I sit high up, under those bridges, in front of a lit fire with the river flowing.

A white dog grows old next to him. To keep him warm he caresses him with a glove.

Cer-cer-certain people are transparent to other people and then they turn off under their noses continuously.

They are in the middle but you don't notice them, like complacent wind souls.

Kites above a fire that pierces them like a blade, makes them fall suddenly into the middle of the street.

When it rains the river rises, move house, look for a new place for tonight.

How sad is the laughter of a homeless man who sleeps on a piece of cardboard, sings a refrain, gets high on a whistle.

He drinks from a straw, a song goes out of tune that seemed to me to be speaking about me, - speaking badly about me.

-Late night, dark night, in the dark circles of the moon.

Dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, -dark circles. -At Jim's fire you stay like this.

You tell me yes, but the usual drink. Those who have reached rock bottom can only go up.

Those who have reached rock bottom can only go up, go up.

-Late night, dark night, in the dark circles of the moon.

Dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles, dark circles.
