Backburner

A phone call that smells of the past - a little bitter, a little cozy. There was tiredness, guilt, and that same "what if it's still possible" in his voice. This isn't about passion, or forgiveness - it's about the quiet masochism of tenderness, where even burning is pleasant if it's happening on someone's back burner. And it seems like everything is clear: too late, too painful, too familiar. But there's something strangely alive about continuing a conversation, even tho both know it will end in silence. It's as if sadness is also a connection, and sarcasm is a form of love, just a little overcooked.
