Description

Envy of someone else's ability to forget always sounds particularly bitter. Here, it's almost a textbook on “easy breakups for advanced learners”: a new city, a new haircut, a new life. And behind the scenes - a cold mattress, a couple of casual flings, and the eternal question: who even issues certificates for this art of moving on without looking back? The music brings all this aching injustice together into one stream - where the smile of an ex hurts more than a declaration of love.

Lyrics and translation

Original

I heard from a friend of a friend

That you finally made the West Coast move

Got a high rise apartment, a dog and a new hairdo

And to tell you the truth, yeah

I'm falling apart

But you're good as gold

And darling, I'm dying to know

Who taught you how to move on?

Who showed you how to make it look so damn easy

To skip me like an old song

And hang me out to dry like you were waiting to leave me?

With a smile that's twice as wide, as some over your eyes

I know you didn't learn on your own

Girl, who taught you how to move on?

Who taught you how to move on?

I tried a couple different flings

But there's no one getting me over you, yeah, yeah

Guess I'm all out of luck

When the bar closes up, around two

What do I do?

When I'm sleeping on the mattress as cold as you

Baby, I wish I knew

Who taught you how to move on?

Who showed you how to make it look so damn easy

To skip me like an old song

And hang me out to dry like you were waiting to leave me?

With a smile that's twice as wide, as some over your eyes

I know you didn't learn on your own

Girl, who taught you how to move on?

Who taught you how to move on?

Who do you see when you close your eyes?

Who's been keeping you up at night?

Seems like you've been doing alright

Maybe I'd be too, if I knew

Who taught you how to move on?

Who taught you how to move on?

Who showed you how to make it look so damn easy

To skip me like an old song (to skip me like an old song)

And hang me out to dry like you were waiting to leave me?

With a smile that's twice as wide, as some over your eyes

I know you didn't learn on your own

Girl, who taught you how to move on?

Who taught you how to move on?
